We get under way with the new season already this weekend starting on Saturday afternoon, with an exhibition by Roger Eberhard. Then in anticipation of abc -art berlin contemporary, we are excited to host Marcelo Viquez who will also have work in the fair in the booth of Kewenig Galerie. Join us for the opening and then afterwards for our friends Five & Dime and what promises to be a great After Party!

„Shanty Town for a unique accommodation experience“

Roger Eberhard dokumentiert in seiner Serie „Shanty Town Deluxe“ ein südafrikanisches Ferienressort, das dem Anschein nach einem „Shanty Town“ – einer Elendssiedlung gleicht. Die durch Eberhard separat fotografierten Hütten sind bewusst nach den klischeehaften Vorstellungen ärmlicher Slumbehausungen gestaltet, jedoch ohne in die soziale Realität eines Slumlebens eingebettet zu sein. Ihr Inneres, das den Komfort eines 4-Sterne Hotels bietet, bleibt den Betrachtern der Fotografien verborgen. Die Hütten suggerieren Authentizität, offerieren dem Hotelgast jedoch nicht mehr als eine Kulisse afrikanischer Armut als Privileg zynischen Abenteuertums.

Roger Eberhard fragt mit „Shanty Town Deluxe“ nach zeitgenössischen Ausprägungen einer Suche nach dem Ursprünglichen und dem Fremden. Er erforscht die Geschichte hinter dem Augenscheinlichen und verweist damit auf ein gesamtgesellschaftliches Phänomen der Inszenierung aller Lebensbereiche, mit der auch das Selbst in den Zwang einer Dauerperformance geraten ist.

„Shanty Town Deluxe“ ist der Auftakt zu weiteren fotographischen Serien von Roger Eberhard, die sich mit dem Topos „Hotel“ auseinandersetzen. Gleichzeitig schließt die Serie an das wie in der fotographischen Arbeit „Norma“ bearbeitete Sujet der Geschichtlichkeit und Inszenierung von Gebäuden an.

It is with great pleasure that NR / Projects gets to host, in cooperation with Kewenig Galerie, the work of Marcelo Viquez. Opening on the occasion of the forth Berlin Art Week and in conjunction of Viquez’ participation in abc – art berlin contemporary (Sept 17 – 20) a number of works by the artist will be on view.

Marcelo Viquez was born in Montevideo in 1971 and has lived and worked for almost a decade in Palma de Mallorca. He has exhibited widely internationally, working with drawing, painting, installations, photography and video.

The art is good, the concept is good and for Berlin Art Week, what is more, the party is so very good!
