„Shanty Town for a unique accommodation experience“<br>

Roger Eberhard dokumentiert in seiner Serie „Shanty Town Deluxe“ ein südafrikanisches Ferienressort, das dem Anschein nach einem „Shanty Town“ – einer Elendssiedlung gleicht. Die durch Eberhard separat fotografierten Hütten sind bewusst nach den klischeehaften Vorstellungen ärmlicher Slumbehausungen gestaltet, jedoch ohne in die soziale Realität eines Slumlebens eingebettet zu sein. Ihr Inneres, das den Komfort eines 4-Sterne Hotels bietet, bleibt den Betrachtern der Fotografien verborgen. Roger Eberhard fragt mit „Shanty Town Deluxe“ nach zeitgenössischen Ausprägungen einer Suche nach dem Ursprünglichen und dem Fremden. Er erforscht die Geschichte hinter dem Augenscheinlichen und verweist damit auf ein gesamtgesellschaftliches Phänomen der Inszenierung aller Lebensbereiche, mit der auch das Selbst in den Zwang einer Dauerperformance geraten ist.<br>

„Shanty Town Deluxe“ ist der Auftakt zu weiteren fotographischen Serien von Roger Eberhard, die sich mit dem Topos „Hotel“ auseinandersetzen. Gleichzeitig schließt die Serie an das wie in der fotographischen Arbeit „Norma“ bearbeitete Sujet der Geschichtlichkeit und Inszenierung von Gebäuden an. </p>
