performance/installation I have been working on this year,  “Zucker I:

opens on the 28th of May 2015 at 19:00 at the wonderful undergroud
space at *silent
green Kulturquartier Altes Krematorium* Wedding.

*The mortuary: a place to process formerly living bodies, a place of
putrefaction. Pinocchio: a story processing wood to human flesh. Sugar: the
processing of drug into happiness.*

Over the course of five days, bösediva will create a constantly changing
space, their very own negation of Disneyland.

"Zucker I: PINOCCHIO" by bösediva is a counter-proposal to Walt Disney's
dictatorship of sugar induced happiness. For this performative
installation, the artist group opens up a gigantic underground mortuary,
built by the City of Berlin in the Wedding neighbourhood. The mortuary: a
place to process formerly living bodies, a place of putrefaction.
Pinocchio: a story processing wood to human flesh. Sugar: the processing of
drug into happiness.

The story of Pinocchio 133 years old. It is not sweet. The wooden doll that
is to become a real boy is hungry, loses it's feet, is tortured and hung.
The terror is unending. In his 1940 animated classic Walt Disney poured
masses and masses of sugar onto these cruelties. Sugar makes children
happy, malleable and fat. Sugar makes everything all right. Walt Disney has
created perfect conditions for everlasting cuteness. And then there was
peace and quiet! In Disney's Pinocchioland there is a final clarity,
drug-induced.

This is different in the original Pinocchio story by Carlo Collodi. In
Collodi, there are wild contradictions and ludicrous absurdities. One never
finds solid ground. “Be good Pinocchio!", says the Blue Fairy. But when he
looks around, he says to himself: Being good gets you in trouble! bösediva
seeks out this kind of uncertainty, ambivalence and cognitive dissonance.

Over the course of five days, bösediva will create a constantly changing
space at Altes Krematorium Wedding, their very own negation of Disneyland.
Installation, performance, music and video are aimed at visitors, who are
left to their own devices to make up their own story. Suddenly sugar can
also taste yucky and things are allowed to have more than one meaning – a
liberating experience, possibly. Each project of bösediva is about freedom,
also the freedom of perspective for the spectators, who are being empowered
to choose from a wide variety of images and information.

„Zucker I: PINOCCHIO“ is the first part in a three-part-project by bösediva
circling around sugar, brain chemistry, heaven and hell. And the color
white.

bösediva has worked on the boundaries of performance, visual arts and
theater since 2009. Their work has been presented in Berlin (at
Sophiensaele, LEAP and Deutsches Theater) and internationally. bösediva
insists on providing an aesthetic experience that can also be alienating.
Beauty can be a part of it, but is not meant to overpower. bösediva
utilizes performance art, video- and sound-installation in the tradition of
romantic deconstructionism.

*Mit „Zucker I: PINOCCHIO“ baut bösediva einen Gegenentwurf zu Walt Disneys
Diktatur des Zuckerglücks.* Für diese performative Installation erschließt
die Künstlergruppe einen gigantischen unterirdischen, von der Stadt Berlin
als Leichenhalle gebauten Raum im Stadtteil Wedding. Die Leichenhalle: ein
Ort der Verwandlung ehemals lebendiger Körper, ein Ort der Verwesung.
Pinocchio: eine Geschichte von der Verwandlung von Holz in Menschenfleisch.
Zucker: die Verwandlung von Droge in Glück.

*Die Geschichte von Pinocchio ist 133 Jahre alt*. Sie ist nicht süß. Die
Holzpuppe, die ein richtiger Junge werden soll, hungert, verliert die Füße,
wird aufgehängt. Der Schrecken hat kein Ende. Walt Disney hat für seinen
Zeichentrickfilm-Klassiker von 1940 tonnenweise Zucker auf diese
Grausamkeiten gekippt. Zucker macht die Kinder froh, formbar und fett.
Zucker macht alles gut. Walt Disney hat eindeutige
Niedlichkeitsverhältnisse hergestellt,

endgültiges Kindchenschema. Und dann war Ruhe im Karton! In Disneys
Pinocchioland herrschen klare Verhältnisse, drogeninduziert.

*Das ist in der ursprünglichen Pinocchio-Geschichte von Carlo Collodi
anders.* Bei Collodi gibt es wilde Widersprüche und aberwitzige
Absurditäten. Nie findet man festen Boden unter den Füßen. „Sei brav!“,
sagt die blaue Fee Pinocchio. Aber wenn er sich umsieht, sagt er sich: Wer
brav ist, den fressen die Raben. bösediva hat Sehnsucht nach dieser
Unsicherheit, nach Ambivalenz und kognitiver Dissonanz.

*Im Alten Krematorium Wedding, in bösedivas Negation von Disneyland,*
entsteht ein Raum, der sich fünf Tage lang ständig wandelt. Installation,
Performance, Musik und Video zielen auf die Einbindung der Besucherinnen
und Besucher ab. Wenn Zucker plötzlich auch eklig schmecken kann, wenn die
Dinge mehr als eine Bedeutung haben dürfen, kann das auch eine Befreiung
sein. Alle Projekte von bösediva handeln von Freiheit, auch von der
Freiheit des Blicks der Betrachterinnen und Betrachter, die ermächtigt
werden, aus einem Angebot von Bildern und Informationen eine eigene Auswahl
zu treffen.

*„Zucker I: PINOCCHIO“* ist der erste Teil eines auf drei Teile angelegten
Zucker-Projekts von bösediva, das Hirnchemie, Himmel und Hölle zum Thema
macht. Und die Farbe Weiß.

Die Gruppe bösediva arbeitet seit 2009 im Grenzbereich von Performance,
bildender Kunst und Theater. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in Berlin gezeigt (u.a.
Sophiensaele, LEAP, Deutsches Theater) und ins In- und Ausland eingeladen.
bösediva beharrt darauf, eine ästhetische Erfahrung anzubieten, die auch
als fremd erlebt werden kann. Schönheit kann ein Teil davon sein, dient
aber nicht der Überwältigung. bösediva arbeitet mit den Mitteln der
Performance, der Video- und Klanginstallation, postvirtuos und in der
Tradition des romantischen Dekonstruktivismus.
