This week on Chromatic Wednesdays, we are following the valleys of the mountainous region of the South Caucasus and Eastern Anatolia only to discover the everlasting bond and attachment between its people and the cultural heritage that is overflowing across its shared lines. For the first episode of our Borders theme, we are thrilled to welcome the musical embodiment of the region’s intertwined and rich composition — A.G.A. Trio, namely Deniz Mahir Kartal, Mikail Yakut and Arsen Petrosyan from Turkey, Georgia and Armenia respectively. Masterfully playing the three kindred instruments -kaval, duduk and accordion- A.G.A. Trio creates a harmony that uncovers the melodic amplitude and the vast array of timbres echoing between the passages that bridge the three neighbours. The virtuosos assemble folk tales, love songs of bards, laments for the fallen, respect for nature and ultimately, the meeting of peoples and their co-existence.

During the event, the A.G.A. Trio will perform songs from their latest album titled MEETING, and will share the stories behind the tunes with the audience. Tracing back the history and recollecting the many encounters, their performances juxtaposes the profound and poetic facade with the fearsome rebellions, gatherings and farewells.

In dieser Woche des “Chromatic Wednesdays” folgen wir den Tälern der bergigen Region des Südkaukasus und Ostanatoliens, um die immerwährende Bindung und Verbundenheit zwischen den Menschen und das kulturelle Erbe zu entdecken, das über die gemeinsamen Grenzen hinausgeh
t. Für die erste Folge unseres Themas “Grenze” freuen wir uns, die musikalische Verkörperung der verflochtenen und reichen Komposition der Region begrüßen zu dürfen - das A.G.A. Trio, nämlich Deniz Mahir Kartal, Mikail Yakut und Arsen Petrosyan aus der Türkei, Georgien bzw. Armenien. Durch das meisterhafte Spiel der drei verwandten Instrumente - Kaval, Duduk und Akkordeon - erschafft A.G.A. Trio eine Harmonie, die die melodische Fülle und die breite Palette an Klangfarben, die zwischen den Passagen, die die drei Nachbarn überbrücken, widerhallen, aufdeckt. Die Virtuosen versammeln Volksmärchen, Liebeslieder der Barden, Klagen für die Gefallenen, Respekt vor der Natur und schließlich die Begegnung der Völker und ihr Zusammenleben.

Während der Veranstaltung wird das A.G.A. Trio Lieder aus ihrem neuesten Album mit dem Titel MEETING spielen und die Geschichten hinter den Liedern mit dem Publikum teilen. Indem sie die Geschichte zurückverfolgen und sich an die vielen Begegnungen erinnern, stellen ihre Auftritte die tiefgründige und poetische Fassade den furchterregenden Rebellionen, Zusammenkünften und Abschieden gegenüber.

Chromatic Wednesdays is a culmination of our recent collective consciousness — the pandemic has disrupted our ability, creativity, and production. How do we as artists and intellectuals develop alternative forms of thinking and articulate this unclear existential situation? How can we get out of this limbo? How can we expel it?

Addressing these questions, Apartment Project developed a program titled Chromatic Wednesdays, which consists of 33 individual events, that will take place within eleven months starting from December 2, 2020. Each month will revolve around specific themes on current issues such as; immigration, pandemic, ecology, sustainability, gentrification, gender, survival, boundaries, geography, freedom of speech, and future. On three Wednesdays per month, artists, musicians, performers, scholars, scientists, and cultural practitioners will be invited to collaborate and share their research, practices, and experiences. The space will host a variety of events such as; concerts, performances, workshops, film screenings, lectures, exhibitions, readings, panel discussions, and dinner gatherings.

Chromatic Wednesdays ist ein Höhepunkt unseres neuesten kollektiven Bewusstseins - die Pandemie hat unsere Fähigkeit, Kreativität und Produktion gestört. Wie können wir als Künstler und Intellektuelle alternative Formen des Denkens entwickeln und diese unklare existenzielle Situation artikulieren? Wie können wir aus diesem Schwebezustand herauskommen? Wie können wir sie vertreiben?

Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, entwickelte Apartment Project ein Programm mit dem Titel "Chromatic Wednesdays", das aus 33 Einzelveranstaltungen besteht, die innerhalb von elf Monaten ab dem 11. November 2020 stattfinden werden. Jeder Monat dreht sich um spezifische Themen zu aktuellen Themen wie: Einwanderung, Pandemie, Ökologie, Nachhaltigkeit, Gentrifizierung, Geschlecht, Überleben, Grenzen, Geographie, Redefreiheit und Zukunft. An drei Mittwochen pro Monat werden Künstler, Musiker, Performer, Wissenschaftler und Kulturschaffende eingeladen, zusammenzuarbeiten und ihre Forschungen, Praktiken und Erfahrungen auszutauschen. Der Raum wird eine Vielzahl von Veranstaltungen wie Konzerte, Performances, Workshops, Filmvorführungen, Vorträge, Ausstellungen, Lesungen, Podiumsdiskussionen und Dinner-Versammlungen beherbergen.
