Dear reSourcers,

Maybe some of you remember the Ambisonics dome exhibition that Julius Holtz
organised at Spektrum in September 2017. With this email I'm happy to send
you more information on a new project that he is involved in, which takes
place from 13-15 September in the Kleiner Wasserspeicher in Prenzlauer Berg
- hope it is interesting for you!

Best, Lieke

*****************

Monat der zeitgenössischen Musik and Blind Signal present STRANGE LOOP. A
concert installation made of light, sound and architecture. Visitors are
invited to drift away. Stay as long as you like! Experience Strange Loop
from different perspectives: standing, sitting, or lying down.

The composer Julius Holtz and the video artist Jemma Woolmore combine their
work within the structures of the kleiner Wasserspeicher in Prenzlauer
Berg. The former water reservoir becomes the setting for an installation
concert in which performers interact with light, architecture and spatial
sound. For three days the artists explore an approach to non- linear time,
blurring the boundaries between installation and concert, between hearing
and seeing. The synaesthetic experience creates a heterotypic space outside
of so many over- determined coordinates, algorithms, relations and markets. A
place of intuitive listening and synaesthetic experience.

The composition evolves like a multi-level hierarchical system. If you move
up or down through the system you will find yourself back where you
started.

JEMMA WOOLMORE

Blurring the boundaries between real and virtual, Jemma’s work explores the
spatial and emotional possibilities of light and image in performative
environments.

Hailing from New Zealand where she completed her Fine Arts degree, Jemma
has made a unique path, weaving between the electronic music and visual
arts scenes. Spanning audio-visual performance, installation and bespoke
visual and sculptural design, her work shows a strong sensitivity for
combining light, sound and structure.

Inspired by naturally occurring patterns, and imbued with a sense of
science fiction otherworldliness, Jemma’s work uses recurring symbols to
interrogate the fragile boundary between Utopia and Dystopia. In her
carefully crafted performances crystalline structures and abstract textural
landscapes fluctuate ambiguously in scale between the micro and macro,
responding intuitively with sound and environment.

In Berlin Jemma is a curator for Scope Sessions artist talks and works as a
member of Lacuna Lab.

Jemma’s recent collaborations include the Nonagon AV show with musician
Paula Temple, video mapping installation ‘Sound Affects’ at Sonos Studio LA
with PATTERNS Architects and the permanent installation ‘Ephemeral
Geometry’ at Les Dominicains (FR).

Jemma Woolmore has showcased her work in festivals, clubs and arts
institutions internationally. Including: Mapping festival (CH), MIRA (ES),
Node festival (DE), Convergence festival (UK), Sonos Studio (USA), Krake
Festival (DE) and Mutek Mexico.

HILARY JEFFERY

Hilary Jeffery (b.1971) is a British musician born in Surbiton (UK) and
currently based in Berlin. His musical career started with a journey to the
Sahara Desert in 1990 and the sense of silent space which he experienced
there is a sustaining influence on his work. He took a degree in music at
Dartington College of Arts and the University of York between 1990 and
1993. Early contact with UK jazz musicians such as Paul Dunmall and Keith
Tippett have had a lasting influence on Hilary’s approach to music. After
completing his studies he became a freelance musician. His early
engagements include a tour of UK, Scandinavia, Europe and North America
with an Anthroposophic theatre company called Portal Productions for a new
version of Rudolf Steiner’s fourth mystery play “The Soul’s Awakening”.
After completing this tour Hilary settled in London, worked as a session
musician and taught music to theatre students at Queen Mary and Westfield
College and Central School of Speech and Drama. During this time he also
worked on many compositions including solo pieces for trombone and for the
Slovakian cello player Jozef Lupták.
