Tuesday 10 Oct: Smell Lab #24
*Start time: 19:00 - back room*

This Smell Lab meet-up we will watch a movie and after - some guys from
last meet-up will check their created fragrances how the smell has changed
after 4 weeks... and of course they can take away their „parfume“!

About the movie:
"*Collector* is a film by the art group “Where Dogs Run” founded in
Jekaterinburg that documents the collective’s journey in two industrial
towns in the Urals. Collector – a man with an electromechanical
street-organ, which collects and archives smells and the instruments makes
sounds out of them.

*Ouananiche - Elsewhere*
Film screening in the presence of the director

There’s no denying it: we’re travelling more often, and we’re travelling
faster. But what has become of motion and time? What of those moments lost
or gained in simple contemplation, in a state resembling hypnosis,
enriching our imagination, health, and sense of self? With this work – by
turns documentary, electronic music performance and VJ session –
audio-visual artist Ouananiche has created an unconventional and powerful
essay on that essential trance state. Truly a cinematic experience, fully
deserving of its title, Autre part was screened at last fall’s Festival du
nouveau cinéma. It’s a journey to the heart of the unique experience of the
moment between departure and arrival. An exploration at the heart of the
stories of immigrants, pilgrims and explorers in anonymous dialogue, to the
heart of our selves and of our world.

Thu 12 Oct: Light Movement 24: Giuseppe Boccassini

Doors: 19:30 / Start time: 20:00
*Entrance: 6-10 € (up to your offer)*

We are delighted to welcome *Giuseppe Boccassini *- a filmmaker working
with found and archival footage to work a visual language to surreal
affect. In a manner that suggests films inner breathing, as if it had a
consciousness, or the media dreaming of itself, these images circulate and
pulsate in reflection of their own problematic being. By Boccassini's
definition, "film is a phallic conqueror that, folding in on itself, now
flaccid deus ex machina, observes itself from the inside like a lysergic
membrane that slowly founders between the folds of its own material."
The resulting vision seems to throw our gaze deep inside the medium of
moving images, towards extremes of close-up, loudness, or slowness,
silence, in unexpected and uncanny meanderings of meaning.

This program will showcase a selection of recent works as well as the
German premiere of his brand new film, Debris (2017), which consists of
decayed fragments from Instagram, Youtube, video-games, public archives,
mostly re-shot with a Mini-DV camera.

   - 21:00 SIRENS: AVperformance by Ryoichi Kurokawa & Novi_sad
   - 22:00 DJ set at the Spektrum Bar

*SIRENS: Ryoichi Kurokawa & Novi_sad (Berlin premiere)*
Ryoichi Kurokawa & Novi_sad collaborate to create Sirens, an impressive
body of work comprising five audiovisual pieces which explore the
aesthetics of data. Sirens is a collection of digitally rendered visual
formations and sound compositions, whose intensity fluctuates as in
relation to the unfolding of the economic downturn. Tied to the fate of the
global markets, the more the economy fails (as represented by data and,
indexes); the more developed and complex the coupled sounds and visual
sequences become. Any disintegration of financial fortunes leads directly
to the emergence of a greater creative energy in an inverse ‘tug-of-war’.
Sirens elucidates the relationship between generative visualisation and
cinematic practices, as this computer generated video work transforms our
understanding of the relationship between moving image, data and the
cinematic. By immersing the spectator in an audiovisual scape and
narrative, the work heightens the performativity of processes, be they
‘technological’ or ‘natural’. The title of the work is inspired by the
Greek mythological creatures that seduce sailors ashore into danger, as a
metaphor for market fervour leading to economic collapse.

*APPROXIMATE ACCURACY: Pierce Warnecke & Frank Bretschneider (world
premiere)*
Approximate Accuracy is a hybrid audio-visual performance which borrows
from modular audio and video synthesis techniques, adapting them with
contemporary digital tools. The audio uses custom Nord Modular patches
manipulated live; the imagery is based on digital emulations of modular
video synthesis fed into 3D software and tightly synchronized to the
experimental electronic music. Realtime interaction between sound and video
creates overlapping layers of dynamic patterns resulting in complex
synesthetic moirés.
The open system allows for improvisation while at the same time staying
close to the aesthetics of sound and video synthesis, and as such is an
immersive performance that explores that many possible mutations of simple
pattern-based systems. Approximate Accuracy is a homage to the masterpieces
of early electronic music and video synthesis, combining them with modern
approaches of audiovisual performance as a continuation of the visual music
tradition.

*EMPIRE II* is an artist led satellite project, originally devised and
curated by Vanya Balogh for 57th La Biennale di Venezia

This intimate, immersive film hub space will feature three chambers;
beginning with an extensive library, engaging in film history and theory,
curated attentively by participating artists from their personal book
collections and intended for browsing and perusing; leading further on to a
single screen darkroom, a pulsating digital heart, showcasing a sequence of
115 imaginative short films programmed to play on the continuous loop; and
on to the final imaginary space, the Virtual Reality port which will evolve
over time in collaboration with various artists.

*SPEKTRUM* is a project space in Neukölln for idealisation, realisation and
exhibition of technology-based artworks, media-focused events and
futuristic utopias based on the principle "do-it-together-with-others". Above
all, we are an open space promoting participatory processes to co-define
and co-design a social and physical playground for curiosity and critical
understanding.
