As an incredibly deep experience.
As a treasure chest of traditions, experiences, physical and mental trips.
Or even as a platform for multisensorial experiences: among ancient
oriental instruments, byzantine liturgies, violins, bells and drum machines
a smell of incense is released with immense walls of light, smoke and
Hanging in balance between a visceral fury and an almost disturbing

Sunday 28 May: Sound Portraits #18: Mika Vainio & Pan Sonic
Doors: 19:30 / Start time: 20:00
*Limited seats: please come on time*

Sound Portraits is a series of listening sessions, curated by Doron Sadja,
focusing on the work of iconic composers who have paved the way for
contemporary electronic music. After a short introduction of each artist's
life and work, we will listen to a selection of excerpts and complete works
from the artist’s repertoire.

*This session: Mika Vainio & Pan Sonic*
*Mika Vainio *was the co-founder of Finnish techno duo Pan Sonic, whose
innovative brand of blistering rhythmic noise and uncompromising minimalism
transformed them into one of the most popular exports from the Northern
European techno underground. Unlike Pan Sonic's harder, comparatively more
dancefloor-oriented gear, however, Vainio's solo work tended more toward
the ambient and experimental, wedding sparse machine noises with shifting
rhythms, sonic textures, and assorted channel separation weirdness. Through
his career, Vainio collaborated with the likes of Charlemagne Palestine,
Fennesz, Merbow, Suicide's Alan Vega, Autechre's Sean Booth, and Keiji
Haino. Mika Vainio passed away just a few weeks ago at the age of 53. Join
us in a celebration of his life and work.
