Dear all,

On 22 May the Koalition der freie Szene (KFS) Plenum approved a new working
group: 21 Century art & Digital Culture, with the purpose of improving the
situation for New Media and Hybrid arts in Berlin (see more below). We had
meetings on 29 May and 15 June, and would like to invite you to our third
meeting, on Tuesday 18 July, 17:00 at Spektrum, Bürknerstr 12, 12047 Berlin
(U8 Schönleinstrasse).

During this third meeting we will finalise the draft of our 21C Art &
Digital Culture position paper, which we will send to the Sprecherkreis of
the Koalition der freie Szene for their feedback - so please join us and
tell us about your needs & ideas that you want to see included in the
paper. The goal should be to have a 90% draft by the meeting - where we can
finalise and translate the draft for the KFS Sprecherkreis - to be sent off
at the end of the month.

+++ BACKGROUND INFO ++++

We have formed a working group within the 'Koalition der Freie Szene' to
inform & lobby political actors in Berlin about artists, curators & spaces
in Berlin that deal with new technologies and science (see self description
below). Working group members include Ela Kagel, Christian de Lutz, Tatiana
Bazzichelli, Erika Šiekštelytė, Lieke Ploeger, Rüdiger Sakrowski, Paolo
Podrescu, Peggy Sylop, Claudia Dorfmueller among others

+++ PURPOSE OF THIS OPEN WORKGROUP +++

Our short term purpose is to write a position paper for presentation to the
Berlin Senate in September (when they will be debating the next budget).
Longer term we want to inform politicians, civil servants and a larger
public of ouir diverse projects and improve funding.

+++ ABOUT US/ Working Group 21st Century Art & Digital Culture +++

We are artists, curators and spaces in Berlin who are active in diverse
cultural manifestations relating to new technologies and their greater
social, political and cultural effects in the 21st century. Our work ranges
from digital art (net.art, software art, hardware hacking, etc) to
experimental electronic music (e.g. noise, glitch, drone), Science-Art and
BioArt, investigations into digital and 'post-digital' culture: the open
source and DIY movements, data protection, digital surveillance and civil
and human rights issues relating to new technologies, as well as the use of
new technologies in performing arts, music, visual arts and especially in
trans-disciplinary and Hybrid forms.

What ties this diverse, inter- and trans-disciplinary group together is a
critical, knowledge-based approach to new technologies. We are united by a
process of working with science and technologies as media to be examined,
demystified and utilized for creative production with special attention to
civic education and the social good. Our use of new technologies as a
starting point separates us from our original disciplines (Fine arts,
music, performing arts) but binds us across our fields

+++ ÜBER UNS / A.G. 21st Century Art & Digital Culture +++

In unserer Arbeit verbinden
Sparten.
