Introduction to Processing

In this workshop participants will learn how to sketch code with the open
source multi platform Processing. Participants will learn from scratch
basic and functional interactions with code: including drawing functions,
image processing, sound generation, and a series of networking features.
You will be able to design visual programs for generation and interaction
with other platforms via OSC, such as Pure Data, Supercollider, Max, Live,
etc.

Workshop Inhibition (algorithmic sound synthesis)

Are you interested in open-source software/hardware, programming,
single-board computers and electronics? Do you want to experiment with
analogue amplifiers, filters, machine learning, artificial intelligence,
data processing, algorithmic sound synthesis and paradigms of
brain-computer coupling? Do you want to make your own ‘intelligent’ headset
that will be capable of EEG (electroencephalography) and algorithmic
synthesis of electronic sound?

In the context of his new work Inhibition, Marinos Koutsomichalis present a
hands-on production workshop, introducing the participants to open
technologies, creative coding and hardware design, and guiding them into
making their own individuated headsets. The workshop will conclude with the
participants publicly showcasing their creative outcomes and performing
with them. Participants may then keep their headsets.

   - *Time*: 4 and 5 March, 10:00 - 17:00
   - *Fee: *200 Euro (including materials; you can keep the devices you
   make)

This workshop by Gene Kogan will introduce machine learning tools which can
be used in real-time applications like interactive installation and live
performance. These new methods from computer vision and machine listening
can be deployed to facilitate the parsing, visualization, and fast
retrieval of relevant media, from images to sounds to text. The workshop
will include a high-level introduction to the theory of these methods, and
distribute open-source applications for use on your own media collections.

Arduino Advanced

This is a workshop continuation on Arduino, where you will learn further
experiments to control sound and light electronic devices. Also you will be
able to sync Arduino with other computers or network servers. Lastly, the
workshop will help you through wearable and embodied systems.

This workshop will give an overview of some of the most common tools for
tracking body movement for sound generation and sound control. We will
focus on two main tools:

   - Motion tracking with cameras: both a 2d camera as well as a kinect
   - Accelerometers

The following sensors will be considered: smartphone (bring yours!),
Senstestage1 and Myo2 The data provided by these sensors will be analyzed
with different tools and it will available to all participants during the
tests. Different possible strategies for using this data to produce and
control sound will be considered through a few simple examples using the
main sound generation softwares (Supercollider, Pd, Max/MSP, Ableton Live
with Max-for-live).

Participants are invited to bring one (or possibly more) concrete
situations where they would like to use this technology. We will take some
times for problem solving and suggest possible solutions.

:::::: WORKSHOP ::::::

Spatial design is a relatively new conceptual design discipline that
crosses the boundaries of traditional design, it can be used in stage
design, art, architecture. Artists and designers can adjust video
projections to spatial objects through the use of projection mapping. VJing
techniques would be applied in cases if artist would want to create
specific videos, mix them in real time and project on spatial shapes. These
complex systems are used in designing an immersive real-time visual
performances.

In this 5 days long workshop participants will learn about materials and
methods used in stage design, as well as how such software like Blender and
Adobe Illustrator can be used to produce three-dimensional sculptures.
Participants will learn about projection mapping - history and ways how
projection mapping can be used. They will practice projection mapping on
already made three-dimensional objects.

Workshop: Projection mapping with the Raspberry Pi Advanced

*Saturday 25 - Sunday 26 March from 10:00 - 16:00 *

Learn to create compact projection mapping installations with Raspberry Pi
and openFrameworks. During this two-day workshop you will learn how to set
up the Raspberry Pi, use it to build your projection mapping project, back
it up and restore it if needed. Advanced topics, such as preparing and
cloning SD cards, autostart, custom generative sources, networking and
projector blending will be covered. Limited amount of projectors and
Raspberry Pi's will be available at the venue.

*SPEKTRUM* is a project space in Neukölln for idealisation, realisation and
exhibition of technology-based artworks, media-focused events and
futuristic utopias based on the principle "do-it-together-with-others". Above
all, we are an open space promoting participatory processes to co-define
and co-design a social and physical playground for curiosity and critical
understanding.
