Concept of “VORSPIEL 2015”
With Vorspiel 2015, transmediale and CTM want to continue the tradition
of creating and strengthening the network and scene of cultural actors
and institutions, which has been established over the last years. The
Vorspiel is part of transmediale’s reSource for transmedial culture
berlin programme and its efforts to strengthen the network of cultural
managers, institutions and project spaces in the city of Berlin and
around it. The network aims to connect different genres and practices
for creating opportunities of common exchange and reflection and for
bringing together communities and individuals which are dealing with
art, technology, politics and identity in a critical way.
Call for proposals
The Call for projects for Vorspiel 2015 is addressed to independent
project spaces, platforms, curators and artists in Berlin. In occasion
of the upcoming edition of transmediale and CTM, the idea is to create a
programme (with exhibitions, performances, concerts, presentations and
other formats) that is distributed in the city of Berlin and its various
and diverse project spaces, galleries and institutions that are dealing
with digital art & culture and experimental sounds & music. It is meant
to be a programme for the city of Berlin, presenting the variety and
different approaches of the different cultural actors in a concentrated
and energetic format, while also seeking to strengthen the dialogue with
the two festivals. To create this link, the Vorspiel programme will take
place before both festivals and go on for 2 weeks. It will start with a
common opening event organized by transmediale and CTM for and with all
participating venues and representatives of the city and the scene; and
end together with the two festivals on their last day with a closing
event at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). This event will be part of a
series of presentations and discussions within transmediale’s conference
programme on the topic of the shifting relation between curating,
research and the post-digital institution including the crucial
questions of how to build new commons and sustainable labour conditions
on a locally and translocally level.
Procedure and conditions
To avoid overlappings and develop an adequate time schedule, a programme
committee of transmediale, CTM and other members of the network will
prepare an event map leading people from one neighborhood to another.
They will develop tours which combine events in a closer area (e.g. in
the same Kiez).
The costs for production and organization of the various events will
have to be covered by their spaces and organizers, transmediale and CTM
will organize the communication and promotion of the programme.
The festival 2015 themes
transmediale 2015 CAPTURE ALL
The drive towards the quantification of everything means that we are all
contributing to a state of permanent capture of life into data. As
citizens, workers and players of networks we (often involuntarily)
double as sensors for bodies of global data collection, working for the
potential extraction of value everywhere and increasing the productivity
of everyday life.
transmediale 2015 sets out to push against the limits of digital
culture's pervasive logic of CAPTURE ALL
<http://www.transmediale.de/content/transmediale-2015-capture-all>and
its quantification of life, work and play.
CTM 2015 Un Tune
Under the titleUn Tune
<http://www.ctm-festival.de/festival-2015/theme/>, CTM 2015 aims to
engage with the direct bodily effects of frequencies, sound, and music,
as well as these phenomena’s synergistic effects with other sensory
stimuli. Artistic experimentation with the affective and somatic effects
of sounds and frequencies opens up possibilities of tuning and de-tuning
the composite that interconnects body, matter, energy, and (musical)
machines – and of exploring our perception.
