Thanks again for coming and the nice discussions, looking forward to
seeing you all soon at the next network meeting, taking place at
Liebig12 on Sept 17th at 6pm!

All best,

_1. Presentation of Agenda / Introductions__ _

-> Introduction of the festival theme for 2015 “Capture All” by
Kristoffer with a short update on programme development and pre-festival
programme. The call for works is just over but the first thematic text
for that can still be read online. The next festival is exploring the
limits of quantification and especially looking at self-motivational
structures to participate in datafication such as gamification and
quantify self.

Followed by common discussion:

Gregor mentions the relevant notion of “dark data”, that even if we
delete data, this just becomes another recorded data event somewhere
while the deleted file also persist somewhere.
Not all in the network feel they are working on this theme but can of
course relate to it.
Alessandro thinks it takes a deconstructive approach, Derrida.
Kristoffer comments that yes there is the deconstruction but definitely
also a constructive, action based agenda for the next festival. But the
critical starting point is always there.

_2. transmediale reSource / where are we now?_

Kristoffer provides a short recap on the origin and first years of
reSource activities. It was started as a common effort with Tatiana
Bazzichelli to give a comprehensive framework to the all-year activities
of transmediale. Part of the idea was to focus on local networks
(although also translocal by its International character) in the
transmediale field of art and digital culture, to reflect on the
conditions of this cultural production in the city. The reSource has
also focused on research approaches, including cooperations with
Universities and Tatiana’s own post-doc project on the politics of
network cultural production. Further the reSource is a framework for all
activities that happen outside of the festival but that often feed back
into the festival, such as residencies and special artistic projects.
The reSource continues in this spirit of curation, research and
networking also after Tatiana has left and will not have a standardised
form but adapt to the shifting cultural terrain as well as themes of the
festival and its community.

Question: What are “transmediale reSource-events” and what is the
reSource network?

- reSource events are curated events by transmediale outside of the
festival. Most often they are developed in partnership with a venue,
project space, or other networks in the city. These events enable
transmediale to host other types of activities than those that fit into
the festival logic. These are more curatorially customised projects on
specific topics such as the recent Magical Secrecy Tour which had the
format of a bus tour allowing for a completely different type of
engagement with the topic of surveillance than during the last festival.
It demonstrates how a reSource event can have synergies with the
festival themes, be developed in partnership with a local space (NK
Projekt) as well as anticipate some of the coming Capture All themes.
Previously reSource events were the panels, workshops and mini
exhibitions at Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien which partly launched
projects such as OCTO for transmediale 2013.
The next reSource event will be the Speisekino on Sept 19 at Z/KU, see
more below.

- The resource network meetings evolved from the first two “open
discussions” that took place at the reSource 001 and 002 events and that
gathered a diverse group of transmediale affiliated and new project
spaces and cultural producers within the city. Already after the first
reSource event, there was the frst “Meeting of Berlin based New Media
Spaces and Curators” hosted by Panke together with Art Laboratory Berlin
, see:
http://www.transmediale.de/content/meeting-berlin-based-new-media-spaces-and-curators

These meetings along the way became what is today refered to as the
“reSource Network Meetings” but is an independent initiative where
transmediale is happy to participate and support without taking the main
responsibility (which should be the ver evolving network).
Kristoffer explained that transmediale is very happy that these
discussions are ongoing and transmediale wants to promote their
continuation. At the same time it should be clear that they are
different than reSource events, and that there is no direct correlation
between these meetings and the curated events. The meetings should go on
through motivation of the network!

3. reSource network-meetings

Question: Is the current model (=mix between moderated discussions and
“Stammtisch”) working or should the meeting e.g. be a Stammtisch/social
meeting only?

Responses

Generally the present network members like the ambigous character of
meeting point & place for content discussion.

- there is a need for a fixed date like every 1st Wednesday (every other
month)

- there were several peeople who proposed 2 monthly meetings instead of
monthly

- idea: round of intros good, maybe added why you are there / what you
want to discuss

- one idea: host prepares the meeting and after the intros dives into
the discussion / presentations etc.

- should the reSource mailing list be used for finding the next host or
announcements in general?

Conclusion => fixed dates fixed through doodle or equivalent (not
mailing list!), bi-monthly, intros and fixed agenda for content that
ideally is max 1 hr then social hangout.

4. reSource mailinglist

Question: Should event-announcements be banned from the mailinglist? If
so, how should the mailinglist be used? If announcement were “banned”
from the list what would you post?
->discussion of contents in the mailinglist, and announcements on the
TBA-website + TBA-FB?

Responses from the nw:

- idea: TBA could used for annoucements instead of the mailing list

- Helene presented the TBA website and its diffrent features: member
profile, calendar, exchange, forum

- Generally the nw members present like how the list is used

- present members don´t think there are too many announcements on the
list, like to use both

- most nw members also would appreciate a more content / discussion
based use of the list like on crumb.

- (The CRUMB discussion list aims to share practical experience
concerning curating/exhibiting new media art. The discussion is open to
all, and every other month the co-editors introduce a ‘Theme of the
Month’ with invited respondents. Sometimes this is done in collaboration
with an event (...), and always depends on the generosity of guests and
list members.)

- If crumb would be the model for the mailing list, the host of the
upcoming nw meetimg could also be the moderator of that list. (usually
when the hosts of past meetings posted the agenda prior to the event
there were basically no responses from the mailing list).

Conclusion

=> we agreed that kate & allegra host the next rs meeting on september
16 (one month from now) at liebig12, kate will moderate & co-prepare the
meeting (also through proposals on/moderation on the mailing list)

_5. Vorspiel _

present members (who have also been part of the Vorspiel) were asked for
feedback regarding last edition
- timing of info-collection
- what did they think about our attempt to involve them more into a
curated version of the Vorspiel / to create a programme connected to the
themes and keywords of the festivals?
- problems with parallel CTM-events?
- what was the benefit of taking part in the Vorspiel?

As not many of those who took part in the last Vorspiel were present, a
further meeting for evaluation will be planned.

Futhermore, the proposal was to create a kind of committee for a more
distributed and self-organized way of creating a “Vorspiel”-Programme,
in order to create more synergies, less overlaps and “competition”
between the different events and spaces. This is one of the things that
will be discussed further in the next meeting at Liebig 12.

_6. SAVE THE DATES:_

Next transmediale reSource-event: Speisekino @ZKU 19th September 2014.

Next reSource network meeting hosted by Liebig12 on Wednesday 17th
September 2014, 6-8pm.
