Dear friends and colleagues,

I'd like to inform, or remind you, of this week's 'Freitags_Frühstück' brunch event, at the SUPERMARKT Creative Resource Center in Berlin-Wedding, featuring South Sudanese independent film maker Lagu Stephen Samuel. Lagu, who is also a medical student at the University of Juba, has been in Berlin the past three weeks, on the invitation of the BMZ 'Future Forum', 're:publica' and r0g_agency for open culture and critical transformation. He wraps up his visit with a presentation of his work, his vision for the future of his new country ... and the launch of the new website for his organisation, Kapital Movie Industry Corporation (#kapmovie)

Part of Lagu's mission here in Germany is also to seek support for, as well as future collaborations with Kapital Movie, a collective of about 120 young film makers, IT developers, artists and designers, from across South Sudan, many of whom, like Lagu himself, are still students at the university in Juba. Among their innovative activities they do self-directed IT and editing training via a 'virtual academy' that they have set up themselves with - equally virtually - almost no tangible resources.

As a group committed to empowering the communities they live, work and study in, Kapital Movie's focus messages are about health, conflict mitigation, capacity building, employment opportunity and the development of peaceful methods of association through the power of films and short commercials. As a community based, non profit network Kapital Movie Industry Corporation's members are interested in sharing and nurturing the development of a vibrant civil society through the power of open media. As a group committed to empowering the communities they live, work and study in Kapital Movie's focus messages are about health, conflict mitigation, and the development of peaceful methods of association through the power of films and short commercials. They seek to establish solid open systems using strategies that give opportunity for citizens to share knowledge and develop ideas which help cement the process of nation building.

Lagu and his team are an amazing 'home grown' and self-initiated group, with real vision, doing real things in support of this country's future and the development of its still very fragile open and civil society!

The Freitags_Frühstück begins at 09.00 and is open to everyone, with Lagu's presentation itself beginning at 10.30. The great breakfast/brunch buffet costs 5 EUR (plus drinks), but the presentation itself is free of charge. If you are interested and able to join in, please either drop a a short RSVP email to rsvp at supermarkt-berlin.net or join the event on facebook

Friday May 10th, 09.00 - 12.00 (presentation @ ca. 10.30)
