#direngeziparki – Wem gehört die Stadt?

Eine Diskussion über Protest und Stadtentwicklung mit Erdem Evren,
politischer Anthropologe, und Ayşe Erek,  Kunsthistorikerin.
Moderation: Valie Djordjevic

Englisch/Deutsch.

Es ist wohl kein Zufall, dass die Proteste Ende Mai in Istanbul sich
an der Rettung eines kleinen Parks im Zentrum der Stadt entzündeten,
der in eine Shopping Mall umgewandelt werden sollte. Erdem Evren and
Ayşe Erek, die beide im Juni während der Proteste in Istanbul waren,
werden über Gentrifikation, die türkische politische Szene, die
Entwicklung einer Zivilgesellschaft, die Rolle der Religion und
wahrscheinlich vieles mehr diskutieren.

Erdem Evren ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Zentrum Moderner
Orient in Berlin und arbeitet zu den Themen politischer Aktivismus,
Staatlichkeit und Gender in der Türkei. Die Kunsthistorikerin Ayşe
Erek beschäftigt sich mit Kunst und Gentrifizierung in Istanbul. Sie
ist Gastwissenschaftlerin im Stadtlabor des Instituts für europäische
Ethnologie an der Humboldt-Universität in Berlin.

#direngeziparki – Whose city is it?

A discussion about protest and urban development with Erdem Evren,
political anthropologist, and Ayşe Erek, art historian, presented by
Valie Djordjevic.
English/German.

It is not an accident that the protests in Turkey started with a small
park in the centre of Istanbul in need of rescue from being developed
into a shopping mall. Erdem Evren and Ayşe Erek (who were both in
Istanbul during the protests in June) will talk about gentrification,
Turkish politics, the development of a civil society in Turkey, the
role of religion and probably a lot more.

Erdem Evren is a research fellow at the Centre for the modern Orient
in Berlin. His research deals with topics like political activism,
state theory and Gender in Turkey. The art historian Ayşe Erek works
on art and gentrification in Istanbul at the city lab of the Institute
of European Ethnology at the Humboldt university in Berlin.
