Liebe FreundInnen des SUPERMARKT,

während wir immer noch auf den Frühling warten, geht es hinter den Glasfassaden heiß her: Workshops, Frühstücksevents, Konferenzen, Arbeitstreffen im Café - Danke an die vielen interessierten BesucherInnen, die in den letzten Wochen vorbeigekommen sind und Leben in die nördliche Brunnenstraße gebracht haben. Dank Euch fühlen wir uns hier mittlerweile richtig zuhause. Auch für den April haben wir wieder ein spannendes Programm für Euch vorbereitet: Wir stellen zehn inspirierende Frauen aus der Berliner Medienkunst-Community vor, es wird einen Magazinsprint geben, ein Freitagsfrühstück mit dem Team von Himmelbeet, eine DIY Masterclass zu alternativen Drucktechniken und vieles mehr. Hier nun unsere Programm-Highlights der kommenden Wochen:

Donnerstag, 4. - Samstag, 6. April: NEWTHINKING MAGAZIN SPRINT - Digitale Kultur, Netzpolitik, DIY, Kollaboration, Open Everything - um Themen wie diese soll es im Magazin gehen. Doch noch ist keine Zeile geschrieben und kein Inhalt festgelegt. All dies geschieht vor Ort während des Sprints. Open Source Enthusiasten aller Art sind eingeladen, mitzumachen. Das Magazin wird auf der re:publica 2013 präsentiert.

Dienstag, 9. April,  ab 18.30 Uhr: BERLIN'S MEDIA ART COMMUNITY: A Female Perspective - Berlin hat eine lange und ereignisreiche Geschichte von Frauen, die in der Medienkunst, im Medienaktivismus und in der Digitalen Kultur aktiv sind. Bei diesem Event stellen wir einige der Frauen vor, die das Bild Berlins als Stadt der Digitalen Kultur entscheidend mit geprägt haben. Präsentationen von Tatiana Bazzichelli, Valie Djordjevic, Andrea Goetzke, Kathy Rae Huffman, Claudia Kefer, Julia Kloiber, Lisa Lang, Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen, Diana McCarty und Michelle Thorne.

Freitag, 12. April, 9-12 Uhr: FREITAGSFRÜHSTÜCK IM SUPERMARKT: April Edition - Nach dem erfolgreichen Start unserer Frühstücks- und Präsentationsreihe im letzten Monat laden wir Euch jetzt zur zweiten Ausgabe des Freitagsfrühstücks ein. Es gibt ein tolles Frühstücksbuffet, Tee oder Kaffee und die Vorstellung eines Projekts aus unserer Nachbarschaft. Die Gastgeberinnen im April sind Anna Rösch & Franzi Haußig von Himmelbeet, einem Kollektiv, das derzeit einen interkulturellen Gemeinschaftsdachgarten im Wedding ins Leben ruft.

Samstag, 13. April,  ab 19.00 Uhr: SMART CHESS - Interface & Gravity - In der zweiten Aprilhälfte wird die Berliner Künstlerin Marion Andrieu im SUPERMARKT anhand künstlerischer Interfaces untersuchen, inwiefern Spiele die heutige soziale Realität und das Gemeinschaftsverhalten reflektieren. Die zweiwöchige Forschungsphase wird mit einem speziellen Schach-Event starten - inklusive einer Führung durch die ausgestellten Arbeiten, einer "Speed Chess Challenge" und offenen Partien mit Marions unkonventionellen Spielsets.

Mittwoch, 24. April, 12-17 Uhr: DIY MASTERCLASS: NEGATIV/ POSITIV - Holzschnitt, Monoprint und Künstlerische Wurzeln - Holzschnitt, Monoprint und Künstlerische Wurzeln - Druckgrafiken gehören zu den ältesten Formen visuellen Ausdrucks in der Geschichte der Menschheit. Mit verschiedenen Materialien, Techniken und in diversen kulturellen Zusammenhängen bildeten Druckgrafiken die Grundlage für bildlichen und geschriebenen Austausch. Die Künstlerin Gretchen Sigrid Blegen wird den Teilnehmern dieses Workshops Holzschnitt und Monodruck als spezielle Printtechniken näherbringen.

While we continue to await the Spring thaw on Brunnenstrasse, inside SUPERMARKT's glass facade things are buzzing: with workshops, breakfast events, conferences, meetings at the café and more. We are very happy to see so many new faces visiting us at SUPERMARKT events and the café on a regular basis! We're back from Easter break with a full schedule of events over the coming weeks, from a special evening showcasing ten inspiring women from Berlin's media art community, a newthinking Magazine Sprint, to the next edition of our popular Freitagsfrühstück breakfast series with a presentation from Himmelbeet, and an artist-led DIY Masterclass on printmaking techniques and practice. So don't get depressed waiting for the Spring, instead join SUPERMARKT's growing community at one of our events over the coming weeks:

Thu 4 - Sat 6 April: NEWTHINKING MAGAZINE SPRINT - Digital culture, net politics, DIY, collaboration, Open Everything - these are the themes of the newthinking Magazine Sprint. But not a single line is written and no content is set - all of this is happening during the sprint. Open source enthusiasts of all kinds are invited to participate. The published magazine will be presented at re:publica 2013.

Tue 9 April, from 6:30pm: BERLIN'S MEDIA ART COMMUNITY: A Female Perspective - Berlin has a rich and long-standing tradition of women engaged in the fields of media arts, media activism and digital culture. At this event we highlight and showcase some of the women who have played an important role in shaping the profile of Berlin as a digital culture city. Fri 12 April, 9am-12pm: FREITAGSFRÜHSTÜCK AT SUPERMARKT: April Edition - After the successful launch of our breakfast and presentation series last month, you're invited to join us for the 2nd edition of our Freitagsfrühstück. This monthly morning event features a tasty breakfast buffet, coffee and tea (of course), and a presentation from a different organisation from our neighbourhood each month. Our Freitagsfrühstück April presenters are Anna Rösch & Franzi Haußig from Himmelbeet, a community-based rooftop garden collective in Wedding.

Sat 13 April, from 7pm: SMART CHESS - Interface & Gravity - For the second half of April, Berlin-based artist Marion Andrieu will take over SUPERMARKT for an artistic investigation based on a series of chess interfaces, as well as their reflection on today's social reality and community behaviours. The research phase will start with a special night of chess on Saturday 13 April including a guided introduction to the works on display, a Speed Chess Challenge, and open chess matches using Marion's unorthodox game sets.

Wed 24 April, from 12-5pm: DIY MASTERCLASS: NEGATIVE/POSITIVE - Woodcuts, Monoprints and Rootedness - Printmaking stands as one of the oldest forms of visual reproduction in the world. Varied in material, technique, and cultural practice, printmaking plants the roots of visual and written exchange. This month's DIY Masterclass, hosted by artist Gretchen Sigrid Blegen, will focus on two printing techniques - woodcuts and monoprints. The workshop will include a brief discussion, instructions on both printing techniques, and the time and supplies for participants to create their own prints.
