Greetings All,

It was an interesting discussion - and relevant for me because I'm
preparing something for a conference about networks and communities.
So a lot of this is on my mind. Like Markus, I didn't realize there
are these parallel streams of interest groups. I've gone to a couple
of the resource meetings, but didn't get this distinction at all. My
guess is that many people on the list also don't know the difference.
Even now, I'm not 100% sure where the lines are.

In all cases, I'd advise caution before jumping into development. It
just takes time to build up communities and find the appropriate
technologies to support them (not to mention the time and effort of
implementation). That question that Daniela raised - what do people
want to get out of this (network, community, alliance) thing.

Either way, it seems like the only way a technical infrastructure can
support some kind of community of shared interests is to work with
that community. 4 meetings with around 8 people seems like really
early days. If there are 100+ potentially interested parties on this
list (not to mention more that could join) it would make sense to
build up something from the affinities we all share. It could be
called a lot of things, for now, I'll just stick to community. So,
maybe a bit more time for community building. What really constitutes
this group?

If it is about technology and media and 21st century art, shouldn't
the social models, content and technologies reflect that? What would
that look like? I'm wondering if there are some models of local
networks and how they use technology that would be helpful. Markus
suggested CIANT. Shouldn't there be more?
