Art Laboratory Berlin heißt Sie im Rahmen der laufenden Reihe Time &
Technology zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung Embodiment of Time herzlich
willkommen.

Der japanische Künstler und Wissenschaftler Yasuhiro Sakamoto und der
spanische Komponist Iñigo Giner Miranda entwickeln speziell für diese
Ausstellung die Installation Streichquartett ohne Streicher für vier
Lautsprecher und eine Kunstmaschine, die am Beispiel zeitgenössischer
und klassischer Musik komplexe Zeitstrukturen in ein akustisch
visuelles Modell überträgt. Die Klangskulptur versteht den Begriff
Musik im weitesten Sinne als eine Organisation der Zeit, die nicht nur
durch rein klangliche Materialien erfolgen kann, sondern
Bewegungsmuster (fallende Murmeln, drehende Räder, Pendel, u. a.) und
optische Patterns (z. B. Video) schafft und einen wesentlichen Beitrag
für das Verständnis unseres heutigen, komplexer gewordenen Umgangs mit
Zeit darstellt.

Der US-amerikanische Künstler Dave Hebb beschäftigt sich mit
Artefakten der industriellen Zivilisation in Form von Fotografien,
Videos und Installation. Seine Videoarbeit Monitor, die bei Art
Laboratory Berlin gezeigt wird, ist eine Video- und Fotodokumentation
einer ökologischen Intervention, die sich über ein Jahr erstreckt.
Hebb stellte dafür einen Computermonitor in die freie Natur und nahm
über das gesamte Jahr hinweg mehrmals wöchentlich die Veränderungen
der Umgebung mit der Fotokamera auf. Die Zuschauer sind dabei
aufgefordert, ihre individuelle komplexe Beziehung zu Natur und
Technik zu überdenken und zu reflektieren, wie Technologie unsere
Erfahrung mit Zeit verändert.

Embodiment of Time

Art Laboratory Berlin welcomes you to the exhibition Embodiment of
Time in the context of the ongoing series of Time & Technology .

The Japanese artist and scholar Yasuhiro Sakamoto and the Spanish
composer Iñigo Giner Miranda have developed the installation String
Quartet without Strings for Four Loudspeakers and an Art Machine
especially for the exhibition. The work transforms the complex time
structures of contemporary and classical music into an acoustic-visual
model. This sound sculpture  interprets the term music in the broadest
sense as an organization of time, which not only creates purely tonal
material, but also patterns of movement (rolling marbles, turning
wheels, pendulums, etc.) and optical patterns (e.g. video), presenting
a significant contribution to our understanding of  the ever more
complex relation we have to time in the 21st century.

The American artist Dave Hebb deals with artifacts of industrial
civilization in the form of photography, video and installation. His
video installation Monitor, which will be shown at Art Laboratory
Berlin, is a video and photographic documentation of an environmental
intervention extending over a one year period. Hebb placed a computer
monitor outdoors and over the entire year documented the changes to
the environment several times a week. Viewers are challenged to
reflect on their individual relationships with nature and technology
as well as how technology is effecting our experience of time.
