<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">Invitation to the Symposium Genius Loci "Weimar Media Facades"<br><br>The 'Media Facade‘ Symposium invites artists, architects designers, media designers,<br>software developers, and theorists of various disciplines to take part in a critical dialog on<br>media projection.<br><br>The symposium takes place from August 5 to 11 as part of the Genius Loci Weimar facade projection<br>festival. Besides their function as multidisciplinary projects of highly artistic qualities,<br>Facades do also work as mediators between today and the past, residents and authorities, but<br>also serves commercial interests or reflect political or planning strategies.<br><br>In this context we are scrutinizing the questions of spaces for social interactions, dynamics,<br>transformations and digitalized environment, democratization of public spaces, the differentiation<br>of permanent and temporary media facades, the influences of commercialization of<br>facades and the sustainable effects of such projects and not least media festivals for cities. Artists<br>are explaining in detail their positions, methods and concepts for this young form of art.<br>Workshops (05.-08.08.13) offer the possibility to experience and experiment projection techniques,<br>coding, choreography, sound, videomapping etc., mentored by experts. The workshop<br>results can be presented and discussed on the selected festival facades.<br><br>The lectures of the first day of the symposium (09.-11.08.13) give an overview on the significance<br>of facades, the art to narrate, the development of videomapping software, the necessity<br>of high-end projection technology, and the future of spatial audio. On the second day artists<br>and scientists reflect their methods and projects.
